Strawberry Nutella Pastries

My daughter wanted poptarts, so I figured this would be similar & at least a little healthier πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ Cut anything into shapes & my kids will at least try it, so we went with heart shapes. They were a hit, & we’re thinking about doing them again with Christmas treeπŸŽ„ shapes for Christmas morning. FYI I seal mine in an airtight container in the fridge & pop them back in oven to reheat leftovers πŸ˜‰

Ingredients

  • Pie crust dough (I used 3 rolls of Pillsbury premade crusts bc... I got 2 kids, so baking anything at all over here is a win, & there’s no shame in cutting a few corners to make it happen. (2 crusts come in a box) More power to ya if you’re a better woman than I & want to do homemade dough πŸ‘

  • 2 cups strawberries, diced

  • 2 tbs granulated sugar

  • 2 tsp or corn starch)

  • 1 egg, beaten

  • Nutella

  • All purpose flour

Instructions

  1. Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees F. Cover a large baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. Combine strawberries, sugar, & corn starch in bowl & gently mix together .

  3. Dust your work space & rolling pin with a little flour & roll dough out very thin.

  4. Use a heart-shaped, Christmas tree shaped or whatever your heart desires cookie cutter & cut 24 shapes (makes 12 pastries)

  5. Move half of the pieces of pie dough to the prepared baking sheet (I had to use two trays). Brush each dough with egg wash & spoon on as much strawberry as you can fit, leaving room to seal edges. (Try to drain as much liquid as you can from strawberry mix so your pastries aren’t soggy!)

  6. Add a dollop of nutella on top of strawberries & line the other piece of dough up on top.

  7. Press the edges together with the tip of a fork for a pretty seal

  8. Cut 2 small slits on top of each pastry, brush with a little egg wash, & sprinkle with sugar.

  9. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.

  10. Enjoy!
