7 Tips to Hide, Style, & Rock Dirty Hair...

Here’s the post that will make my mother cringe..how to hide, style, & rock our unwashed hair! Luckily, carebear (my mom, Karen,) doesn’t have time to keep up with my blogging 😉 Anyhow…every once in a while, the planets perfectly align, & I'm able to get up early, entertain my kids with something, & actually wash & do my hair. However, I’m a mom; a working, cleaning, organizing, taking care of everyone else, mom, that also enjoys squeezing in more than 3 hours of sleep when it’s convenient for everyone else’s schedule. So, more often than not, I simply can’t be bothered to put a whole lot more effort into looking human other than some concealer & mascara. Most days a shower (at least w/out kids in it) is out of the question, as are any styles that take more than 7 minutes, so here are 7 tips to keep you sleeping in & looking decent. Maybe some of you ladies don’t need this read. Maybe there are actually women out there that have time for the whole wash, dry, style, time-consuming routine that I loathe. This post ain’t for those girls. They can go back to styling their hair & serving their kids vegetables like this..

I mean this is some kind of nonsense! A quick Pinterest search for how to make my kids eat vegetables & this is the advice someone is putting out?! I can’t imagine this woman actually has children, but if she does, she needs this article more than any of us, bc she definitely doesn’t have time to wash her hair. I’ll stick with sneaking zucchini in muffins & carrots in pasta sauce, bc it will be a cold day in hell when I start getting artsy with food.

Now haircare or lack there of, is something I will get creative with! So let’s get down to some unwashed trickery with 7 easy tips…

Tip #1: Hide your brush

Like seriously, don’t even touch it once day three rolls around. Brushing distributes the oil throughout your hair, so save yourself the time & the droopy, stringy look. The only way to make it past day 2 is to keep all that oil concentrated up on the scalp. You can brush the bottom half if you have some bed head knots, but avoid the top like the plague, or you’ll be forced to head for the shower.

Tip #2: Dry shampoo; a girls best friend

Scratch that, it’s more like you savior when it comes to your look & schedule. Embrace this wonderful gift that some genius in the world of hair gave us, & stock up! Few things are worse than mentally preparing your day or dinner plans, & ending up in full panic mode when you realize your can is empty after you’ve already down your makeup. I’ve used pricey, cheap, & in between brands, & Batiste (get it here) is hands down the best! Just be sure you hold the can far enough away from your head, or you’ll end looking more like granny than you want.

Tip #3: Play it up

Some of the best hair days happen when you’ve got excessive oiliness. believe it or not, dirty hair actually holds styles better. You can add some volumizing powder (like this one) into it, & boom-you’ve got a textured, fun look that will hold all day! Works perfect for that natural, wavy beach hair look.

Tip #4: Top knot or side part

A top knot hides the greasiest area & looks adorable! If needed you can hit around the bun with a little batiste,  & you’ll be good to go. If you have really long hair like I did until a few months ago, make your knot, & them Bobby pin it down so it’s not so wild. Another grease free look, is a side part bunned up or curled pony. Often, the concentration of oil will be along the center-part line so you can get away with dry shampooing over a side part. Then gently backcomb so you’ve got height at the roots & down.

Tip #5: Don’t fight it, embrace it

Those sleek, polished pony tails are stunning! Sadly, I’m not lucky enough to be able to pull this look off since my ears poke out at the top, & I end up looking a little more elf than sleek. Dirty hair slicks back into a pony perfecty! Swap the dry shampoo for some hairspray (like this one) & you’re all set. So, go ahead & take advantage of your oily strands by combing it back, pulling it tight, & holding it together with a sparkly elastic. Such a modern look.

Tip #6 The half wash

Can't be bothered to take a shower, but feeling too greasy for life? Give your hair a half wash! I’m guilty of doing this way too much, especially in high school & college when I had a heavy side bang. Day 3 & sometimes 4, I would wash my bangs in the sink & throw the rest up with a thick headband. In the picture below, you’ll see that I clean my mirror about as often as my hair. Toddler finger prints are basically on everything in our house.

Tip #7: Accessorize

This one is definitely my favorite! I have been told many times “you’re always so trendy” when sporting a hat or headband. When in reality, I’m just lazy as a mother...mother of 2, that is. We’ve all reached for the tried & true baseball cap those days we hit the snooze button a few extra times, but some days you need to be a little more put together while still avoiding the wash cycle. Enter-fancy headbands & trendy hats! These are a few of my favorites...

Wide brim wool hat $17

Floppy wool hat black $22

Floppy wool hat tan $20

Straw fedora hat $21

6 pack thick headbands: $12

8 pack silk knotted headbands $11

Floppy Beach hat $20

Turban headbands $10

So there you have it! Happy Monday y’all! I hope your week is full fun, adventure, happiness, & dry shampoo!
