Hudson’s Hideaway

Looking for a little pandemic approved fun? Hudson’s Hideaway is calling your name, friend! Matt & I are used to “being gone” as my neighbor puts it, but it’s 2020 so things have looked a little different for us all this year. As much as we really have enjoyed slowing down & spending more time at home; we’ve also been itching for a little exploration.

Thankfully, this adorable, little airstream has shown up to the hospitality game just in time for us to get creative with our travel. I mean who couldn’t be smitten by the combination of nostalgia & wanderlust that this cross-generational form of transportation evokes from all Americans? From the silent generation folks to their boomer children, right down to their hipster grandkids; we all seem to dig hitting the road like high-style hobos. Lucky for us, Hudson’s Hideaway offers all the modern necessities (including some extras), & serves it up to every travelers level of comfort.

I mean, aside from the fact that airstreams are just wicked cool, the versatility of Hudson’s is what makes it the perfect experience for just about anyone. From the most rugged adventurer who wants to tow this baby to the best views, to the parents who just wants their kids to take a break from electronics, to the girls crew that wants to be outdoorsy…but also a little bougie, & basically just show up to a perfectly planted, up & running campsite. That’s right, you can take it for a road trip anywhere in the country, or have it delivered to your home, pick up location, or final destination within 100 miles of Savannah, GA & have it all set up & waiting for you. If you’re the type that enjoys going off the grid, breaking a sweat & doing a little work with your hands before reaping the reward of a perfect campsite, then Hudson’s is for you. If you’re the type that likes all that, but has two kids & a dog (that’s right, they’re pet friendly) running around, then you probably aren’t able to be quite as adventurous or have the time for set up. But you’re still cool, & you want the camping experience…well, Hudson’s is for you too! Or maybe your the type that just does it for the gram (no judgment here), Hudson’s can especially be for you. Just hit the “book now” button on their site & show up to a completely set up camper, complete with two cozy chairs & a yeti cooler waiting under the twinkling stars & glowing, string lights adorning the front of your weekend streamer. The most heavy lifting you’ll have to do is the lid to the lock box to access your key (better get that index finger in shape). So yeah, Hudson’s trendy, little, aluminum roll of convenience fits the bill for just about every experience. Oh, & speaking of bills...you can cuddle up in this cozy two bed camper for less than $100 a night!

Its owners? An adorable, little military family that gets their joy from sharing their love for the great outdoors & setting the stage for your family to create some pretty special memories. We were lucky enough to be one of the first few families in their guestbook, & I am not exaggerating when I say it’s one of my favorites things we’ve done together. So much so, we even talked about buying one! Maybe it was the wine, & the fire, & the stars, but luckily we sobered up & after some light googling, concluded that continuing to rent Hudson’s was a far cheaper, safer, & easier route to go fir the O’Shag family.

We opted for staying local this time around, since we were only doing a weekend. We reserved the camper at Skidaway Island State Park, just outside downtown Savannah. It was a huge success, & lit the fire for more adventures with Hudson’s Hideaway. We’re looking forward to taking it on the road after the holidays, but appreciated being able to do something unique with the kids that didn’t require a long drive this time around. Plus, we were surrounded by all the lowcountry’s beauty, while having all the convenience of downtown Savannah just minutes away, so who wouldn’t want to staycation here, am I right?

Outside we had a fire pit, picnic table, two folding camp chairs, & the promise of a canopy of brilliant stars. We did pack some kid chairs with us (get them here & here), but other than that they thought of everything, right down to the welcome basket stocked with everything for make your own smore’s. Inside, the Airstream had holiday touches throughout, offered a good size bed that both my 6ft husband & I slept great in, a full kitchen, bath with shower, great storage space, loads of outlets, a pull out table that can seat four comfortably (as long as two are children), & a pull out bed that can easily fit two bigger kids. Unlike a tent, it will keep you cool in the afternoons & warm during the evening temperature drop.

As cozy as we were in our sleek pad, we didn’t go to remain indoors. So we set out in search of adventure & explored the marsh, chased each other around the woods, laughed over campfires, & even made a gingerbread house in the cool, crisp, fresh air. Each evening we settled back in our camp chairs, warmed our feet by the fire, & drank in the beauty of God’s great universe...& of course some clean crafted, hangover free wine. We drank in a lot of that too 😉 (get yours here). Then, on our last morning, after a restful sleep & homemade breakfast by Matt, we left the Airstream in its parking spot & drove off with nothing to do but talk & laugh about all the fun we had on our little staycation.

I think a stay with Hudson’s Hideaway would be magical anytime of year, but there’s something about the holidays that just seem to give it an extra sparkle. If you want to get in on the magic for the month of December or even New Years Eve, then you better move quick! Not only is Hudson’s becoming more known, but camping during a pandemic seems to be a popular idea, as campsites are filling up fast these days. If Hudson’s Hideaway is a little big for you, you’ll love her brother, Harlem’s hideout, that they just added. The first five people to reserve him, get 25% off right now, so don’t delay! Happy Travel’s, friends!

FYI: because we live here, we skipped downtown, but if you’re coming from out of town there are so many sights to see & things to do just minutes from Skidaway, especially this time of year! Stay tuned for my “Holidays in Historic Savannah” blog next week!
